Biography

Gregory Phelps is a senior vice president and portfolio manager at MFC Global Investment Management (U.S.), LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of John Hancock Financial Services, Inc. Mr. Phelps joined John Hancock in 1995 and has worked as an investment professional since 1989. Previously, Mr. Phelps was a vice president and portfolio manager at Spectrum Asset Management. Prior to joining John Hancock, he was a supervisor of stock transfer at U.S. Surgical Corp. and director of corporate relations at the American Stock Exchange. Mr. Phelps holds a B.A. in economics from Clark University and an M.B.A. from the University of Connecticut.

Mark Maloney

Biography

Mark Maloney is a vice president and portfolio manager at MFC Global Investment Management (U.S.), LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of John Hancock Financial Services, Inc. Mr. Maloney joined John Hancock in 1982, and held several positions in investment operations and financial reporting before joining the investment staff in 1997. Prior to joining John Hancock, Mr. Maloney spent seven years at John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Company. Mr. Maloney holds a B.S. in accounting from Northeastern University.

Lisa Welch

Lisa Welch
Biography

Lisa Welch is a vice president and portfolio manager at MFC Global Investment Management (U.S.), LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of John Hancock Financial Services, Inc. As a member of the financial institutions team, Ms. Welch specializes in small to mid-sized banks and thrifts. Prior to joining John Hancock in 1998, Ms. Welch was a senior supervisory analyst for the Bank Supervision & Regulation Division of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston. Before that, she was the senior bank examiner for the Federal Bank of New York. Ms. Welch has been in the banking business since 1986. Ms. Welch graduated Summa cum Laude with a B.A. in economics from Boston College. Ms. Welch also earned an M.B.A. in finance with high honors from Bentley College, Waltham, MA. She has participated in the Greater Boston Area Executive program at the MIT Sloan School of Management.

Harindra de Silva, Ph.D., CFA

Biography

Harindra ("Harin") de Silva is responsible for the firm's strategic direction and the ongoing development of its investment processes.  As a portfolio manager, Harin focuses on the ongoing research effort for equity and global asset allocation strategies. Harin has authored several articles and studies on finance-related topics including stock market anomalies, market volatility and asset valuation.  He, along with his colleagues Roger Clarke and Stephen Thorley, was recognized with the prestigious Graham and Dodd Award of Excellence for their research published in the Financial Analysts Journal in 2002 and 2005.  Prior to joining Analytic Investors, Harin was a Principal at Analysis Group, Inc., where he was responsible for providing economic research services to institutional investors including investment managers, large pension funds, and endowments.

As Chief Investment Officer, Greg McMurran oversees the implementation of the firm's investment strategies.  He is a major contributor to the firm's ongoing research efforts as well as new product development and strategy applications.  As a portfolio manager, Greg focuses on day-to-day portfolio management and research related to derivatives-based investment strategies.  With 30 years of quantitative research, portfolio management and trading experience, Greg has an extensive background in managing quantitative investment portfolios.  Greg is also recognized as an authority on options valuation and strategies and has authored several articles.

Biography

As Chief Investment Officer, Dennis Bein oversees the implementation of the firm's investment strategies. He is a major contributor to the firm's ongoing research efforts as well as new product development and strategy applications. As a portfolio manager, Dennis focuses on day-to-day portfolio management and research related to equity-based investment strategies. Prior to joining Analytic Investors, Dennis was a Senior Consultant for Analysis Group, Inc., where he provided investment consulting services for institutional investors and plan sponsors. He advised pension fund managers on topics such as investment objective definition, asset allocation analysis, manager selection and manager performance evaluation.

Yigal Newman, Ph.D

Yigal Newman, Ph.D
Biography

Yigal Newman is a Portfolio Manager responsible for ongoing research and development of options and other volatility-based investment strategies as well as the day-to-day trading of such accounts. Prior to joining the firm, Yigal was previously with Dimensional Fund Advisors (DFA) where he worked on various alpha generation and quantitative analysis projects. Prior to that, he earned his PhD in Finance from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. He also holds a BS summa cum laude in Industrial Engineering and Management from the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology.
